Thursday's Tip: A Conversation of Love
Celebrate Valentine's this year with real conversation hearts. This table centerpiece is simple to make and helps us truly celebrate the one we love by getting to know more about them! Put enough hearts inside so that at each dinner up until Valentine's Day, everyone can pull a question from the basket and help keep the dinner conversation flowing with fun getting to know you conversation starters. Right now get all the items used in this tutorial on sale until Monday at midnight, MST.
Materials:
Cardstock
Hearts from Cupid SVG's
Love from Valentine Cone Boxes SVG
(you could also use the one from Cupid)
Basket from Spring is Bliss SVG
ribbon
Directions:
Cut and assemble basket image no. 16 from Spring is Bliss SVG. I didn't use the decor from the basket, and ended up using just the word 'love' from the Valentine Cone Boxes SVG set. I then adhered the word to the front and doodled around the top and bottom of the basket. Cut out your hearts from the Cupid SVG's in coordinating paper. Then write your conversation starters on the back.
Here are a few conversation starters to help you out:
1. Where is your favorite place to eat?
2. What is your best quality you like about yourself?
3. Beach or mountains, and why?
4. What is one thing you'd really like to do today?
5. If you could buy anything right now, what would it be?
6. Name one word that best describes you.
7. If you could have one superpower what would it be?
8. What is your favorite holiday and why?
9. Which room in the house is your favorite?
10. What is your favorite place to be?
11. Skiing or swimming?
12. What is your best childhood memory?
13. What is your most prized possession?
14. If you could travel to anywhere in the world, where would it be?
15. Most recent favorite read?
16. What is your all-time favorite tv show?
17. If you could be any superhero, who would you be?
18. What is your favorite pastime?
19. What are you proud of?
20. If you could be any animal, what would you be?

Thursday's Tip: Babysitting Kit
If you have a daughter just starting out babysitting, this kit is not only fun to make, but a great help to those new babysitters! Having a babysitting kit not only ensures that there will always be something for the kids to do, but it also has useful guidelines and information for the babysitter to keep handy.
Materials:
canvas tote
cardstock
printable iron-on transfer paper
Harajuku Girls Graphic Set
Babysitting Adventures Graphic Set or Cut It Set
SNF Clarissa Font
LD Hang Ten
To make the kit, we used graphics from both the Harajuku Girls Graphic set and our New Babysitting Adventures Graphics Set. The bold font is LD Hang Ten and our journaling font was SNF Clarissa. We decided we wanted to make both a notebook and a fun tote, so we began by designing a fun front for our tote that we could print on transfer paper and iron onto our bag. It's important to remember to create a mirror-image of your design before you print it on the transfer paper.
Make sure your bag has been ironed and is as wrinkle free as possible before you begin. Then lay your image, image side down and centered onto your bag. Make sure you follow the instructions on your transfer paper, but mine said to set the iron at the highest cotton setting and to iron for 120 seconds. Let your image completely cool before rolling off the backing paper.
Once the bag was done, we needed to decide what things we wanted in our notebook (i.e. name, address, emergency contacts, allergies, special instructions, tips and tricks, games, and fun songs). And created the pages using fun graphics and fonts. You can see what pages we made here:
I sized the pages down to 4.35 by 5.5 so we could fit 4 to a regular sized sheet of paper and printed out. Then I created an easy folder by cutting out a strip of paper from cardstock that was 6" by 12" if you want to fold in at the sides, or if you want it to fold up from the bottom make it 9" by 8".
When you are all done, put it together, grab some cheap markers and coloring books from the dollar store, throw in some fun stories, and you have a fun kit that is sure to bring happiness not only to the children but will impress their parents as well!
Don't forget, Dollar Days ends tomorrow at midnight!

Thursday's Tip: Reward Jar
I decided that my current system of punishment (toys in time-out) was no longer working when. I noticed one day the top of my armoire looked liked it was housing a small toy store. Once upon a time, I used to put a toy in time-out, and he was really good and able to earn that same toy back long before another toy entered time-out. So now that oodles of toys were living on my armoire, I decided on a more positive system, hoping that what would work better would be a simple rewards jar. But first I had to make it look fun right?!
Materials Needed:
Jar (I got this cute one at Hobby Lobby on sale for $2.50, but even a cleaned up food jar would do just great).
ribbons for embellishment
Star Tag from the Holiday Gift Giving Cut It Set
LD Petticoat or another fun font
Fuzz balls
Optional: I used letters from the Pucker Up Collection Cut It sets to make the word Reward, however another fun font would work great here.
Directions:
Begin by creating your word art using Photoshop, Illustrator, Inkscape or other digital art program. Since I decided to use letters from the Pucker Up Cut it sets, I used Illustrator and pulled out the various letters to form the word 'Reward.' I used and M and turned it upside down for my W. I used LD Petticoat to write Calvin's Jar, manipulating size and direction again in Illustrator. This could easily be done with almost any digital art program. I placed my word art on top of my inner stars so that I could just print and cut the inner portion using Make-the-Cut. Then I cut out both that and the tag and adhered together. After that, I simply tied some ribbon around my jar and hung my star, embellishing with more ribbon. Simple, quick, easy and hopefully effective!
